The year was 1996, the city was Richmond, and the mall scene was booming.

Over the past seven years, the Golden Village had become a hot spot: Aberdeen, Parker, President Plaza, and so many other places were redefining the shopping and eating experience in the north side of the city.

More and more places were entering a crowded field, ones outside the main road, ones a little bit smaller. 

Could all of them thrive? Or could some become a cautionary tale of a promising dish gone stale?
